The Grand Union Canal
NO NIGHT FISHING FOR NON-MEMBERS,
NO KEEPNETS DURING APRIL AND MAY
Fishing on the Grand Union Canal has been available to Luton Angling Club
Members and Day Ticket Anglers since 1922 and up until
the 1960's constituted 95% of the clubs fishing. The club has just over 12 miles of continuous fishing along the Grand Union
Canal. this part of the Grand Union canal is considered by many to be the best
canal fishing in the country in fact it has appeared in many of the angling
magazines and newspapers and has been featured on many DVD's and TV shows.
The average depth is about 1.25 metres in the boat channel although some
stretches are deeper with the marginal shelves being considerably shallower.
During the summer months there is a relatively high level of leisure boat
traffic which can disturb the water, however when the boat traffic quietens down
many anglers enjoy the good stocks of Roach, Perch, Bream, Carp and Gudgeon,
During 2007 Chub to 6lb and Rudd to 2lb 8oz have been caught on some sections

sections and some of the fish caught from them

The milder spells of weather during the winter months can provide double
figure bags of Roach, as well as good Bream and Perch, whilst The carp angler
will find that the carp are active at any time of the season and Carp up to 42lb
were caught in 2007!
The Clubs right to fish is exercised from the towpaths only and the offside
bank where accessible legitimately by the public. Some Stretches are for members
only and certain sections have a legering ban, full details of restrictions can
be found in the club membership book. There are several sections affected by
overhead power lines and these are clearly signed but please remember to check
around you before you start fishing.
Please also refer to the safety advice page
on this site. The Canal sections are leased to the club from British Waterways
and whilst fishing them you must abide by the Canal Code.
