Perfect Pike in Predator Paradise
SOUTH LAGOON - WYBOSTON LAKES COMPLEX
Wyboston, Cambs.
South Lagoon has a long reputation for producing outstanding predator fishing with the emphasis upon zander which have topped the 16 lb mark. In addition there is a good head of pike, including specimens over 20 lb, which can usually be relied upon to provide a run or two if conditions rule out the zeds. Away from the toothy critters there are carp to 30 lb, shoals of bream into double figures, tench to 7 lb and big perch.
Ian’s Aim
A double figure zander is the ultimate Wyboston prize but failing that I’ll settle for one of the venue’s decent pike.
Conditions
The flooding has receded and everything is finally drying out. Today starts foggy but soon clears to give a mild and largely overcast day with a light south / south-westerly breeze, which bodes well for zander
Venue Information
Description
A relatively shallow 20-acre gravel pit with a direct connection to the main River Ouse Wyboston South Lagoon is slightly unusual in that much of the deeper water is in the margins with the majority of the main body largely even and featureless. Due to a large golf course only the southern half of the lake is fishable and a hard track gives excellent access to all of the well-maintained swims.
Tickets
Wyboston South Lagoon is controlled by Luton Angling Club who offer an excellent portfolio of waters to their membership and regular visitors could do worse than pick up one of their club books. For one off visits to South Lagoon day tickets are available to non-members on the bank at a rate of £5 per day and £10 per 24 hours with discounts for juniors, OAP and disabled anglers. Location
South Lagoon is situated in the Wyboston Lakes Leisure Complex. Entry is via the slip road access to the A1 from the Roundabout adjacent to the Crown Public House at the A1/A428 Junction south of Eaton Socon. Turn Left into the Complex and follow signs to the lakes past the golf driving range on the right. Turn left at the T-junction and proceed to end of road, turning right onto the track which runs around the lagoon.
