The heavy rain has affected the rivers this week with the bailiffs reporting that the rivers have been in flood condition all week since the heavy rain. At Wyboston the river has been over its bank but is now running high and heavily coloured, at the Black cat we have reports that the fishing platforms are under water and it is much the same at Biddenham.

At North House Lake the only fish reported were caught by Jason Regan who had three 20lb plus commons as well as two tench at 3lb and 4lb 8oz

The water level on the South Lagoon has risen this week with water coming in from the river, this has not affected the fishing with plenty of roach being taken on the float, the pike have begun to show with numbers of fish being caught the best reported was a fish of 25lb taken by Simon Heath.

At Beckerings the weather has kept most anglers away, the fish are still being taken by those who have ventured out. Gary Lawrence took three carp of around 16lb during a day session and the night anglers have been taking fish over 20lb.

Club officers Dennis Hunt and John Morris fished Beckerings on Friday and sent their account..................................

As I was having a day off on Friday because the car was being serviced John and I thought we would get out and go to Beckerings. We got there at 9.30, and agreed to pack up at 3 to get back to pick up the car.

I spent a long time Pikeing, staring at nothing with indicators that never moved, (as did some other anglers, one there when we arrived, two more turned up later but don't know if they caught) and as I had some 2 week old Maggots with me, I stuck out a feeder rod with a Kamasan 'Black Cap' feeder full of maggots with 3 on the hook. This also failed to respond for a long time! I was even considering packing up and going home early, but John persuaded me to stay on.

About 2.30 I got a 6" Perch, so at least I was not going home fishless, and felt a bit better. I cast again to the same spot and guess what, 20 Mins later, the tip went round. I struck, and the fish powered off, and kept on going. I had 6lb braid mainline and a 4lb hooklength on a Drennan Feeder rod. Standard sort of Bream kit really.

Wonderful sound, tight line singing in the wind! After about 15 Mins I landed the fish, very lightly hooked on a size 16 barbless hook, which fell out in the net. The picture is in the photo gallery! The only similarity between the intended quarry and this fish was they both have four letters in the name. This is a very pretty carp of 13.5 lbs. A bit big for bait I think.

Dennis.

Mark the bailiff at Beckerings has asked me to remind everyone that now the water is being pumped and the water level is rising that anglers may fish from the platforms only. Failing to do so will result in an endorsement for offenders.

This weeks match was an inter club event fished on the canal at Lady Cables near Watford, Luton were beaten by 1lb.

The top three Luton anglers were

1 P Currell Jnr with 16lb 10oz of chub

2 J Salmon with 11llb

3 S Arthurs with 10lb 12oz

Next weeks match is on Town South and we are fishing against Ampthill. Draw 8,45am

I have one result from a visiting club.....................................

Steve Rich of New Southgate A.S. who fished their match at The Globe recently left a message    "A phenomenal 1st place went to a bag of 53 lb. 2 oz; 2nd put 34 lb on the scales and third was a respectable 16 lb. 14 oz.  Carp and Bream made up the majority of the weights". Unfortunately he did not give names.
