The Grand Union has canal surpassed itself this week our bailiff Steve Sharp was cycling around late in the afternoon last Saturday and saw his biggest ever carp at 38lb 2oz and as you can understand its captor does not want to be named or the section of the canal where it was caught as it is a little fished area and he does not want other anglers descending on it. Steve stated that it was a mirror carp. Elsewhere an 18lb+ mirror was reported by a visiting Beacon AC member. A 16.5lb common was caught early in the morning as were several other double figure fish. Yesterday evening Mick Walker caught two good carp one a mirror at 21lb and the other a common of 19lb.

At Slapton & Chelmscote anglers were enjoying good sport with skimmers and roach but there were few anglers elsewhere probably due to the cooler than predicted weather and the rugby, football & cricket.

At North House Lake, Wyboston some very large bream have been reported, Lee Harris had one at 11lbs with a 19lb 8oz mirror carp and Mark Almond had one at 10lb with a 10lb 8oz common carp. Dawn Hatchelt caught a 19lb common and a 4lb 8oz tench. On the South Lagoon plenty of silver fish are showing to float fished maggots and on the adjacent river Great Ouse John Rutter had two brilliant days float fishing maggots. On the first day he caught 85 roach and 15 perch up to 1 1/2lbs and on the second day he caught 80 roach up to 10 ozs.

Beckerings Reservoir, Steppingley is fishing very well. Craig Beaumont on one session caught 2 carp over 20lbs , 1 mirror and 1 common as well as 3 doubles on another session he had 2 carp to 18lbs. Dave Fox caught a 22lb common with another double. The best fish reported this week is a 25lb mirror. Large bream around 8 and 9lb have been caught overnight by anglers fishing for carp. The anglers that have float fishing are catching some good mixed bags mainly perch on maggot.
