On the Grand Union canal on Saturday bream were coming out up to 4lbs on section 9 plus the odd carp being lost on light tackle. Top bait over the week-end was corn over hemp. One angler reported a 20lb common carp from the same stretch before the first power lines. On section 8 a regular OAP was catching some cracking roach nudging a pound and also caught a perch estimated at over 2 1/2lbs, all were caught close in, next to a moored boat using red maggot. Slapton is fishing well for roach and skimmers. Sport was brisk at the Stoke Hammond Lay-by with the usual roach and decent skimmers. For bite a cast sport the bailiff recommends to fish light with 2lb main line to a 1lb bottom with a 20 hook or smaller.
On Saturday evening a 14lb mirror was caught on spicy luncheon meat. Plenty of anglers were out on Sunday on sections 8, 9 and 10 with bream showing, the better ones of around 4lbs coming out to worm tipped with either caster or maggot.
At Beckerings Reservoir Steppingley the fishing has been up and down with a couple of dry nets but Kevin Barrables caught an 18 1/2 lb mirror carp on Thursday and a 20lb common on Sunday. Phil Anderson had a small double common. A few bream and tench were caught over the weekend and a 28lb common came out during the night.
At North House Lake, Wyboston, the carp fishing is improving with the warmer weather. Martin Bornman had commons of 24lb 2ozs and 10lb. Sonny Nathan had commons of 20lb 8ozs and 12lb with a mirror carp of 20lb 7ozs. James Oxborough had commons of 20lb 12ozs and 12lb 2ozs. Brett Herdman had a common of 20lb 1oz. Robert Harding had a 14lb 8oz mirror, Joseph Regan had an 8lb common a 4lb tench and a 10lb bream and finally Adam Sheehan had a 20lb common and 3 bream up to 7lbs. On the adjacent South Lagoon, George Gibson had a 6lb tench with some roach and dace. Julie Murfin had a 4lb tench and some bream up to 4lbs and Andy Smith had a 6lb tench and 7 bream up to 5lbs.
