15th July 2007

Can I first forward to all members a request from the fisheries officer Ken Scott & also from our chairman Dave Edwards that we require an urgent work party on our river section of the Great Ouse at Biddenham which will take place on Saturday 21st July 2007,

If any member is able to attend, the club would be most grateful.

Can anyone intending to go along let either Dave or Ken know as they are threatening to supply a BBQ on the day if numbers are sufficient Please remember this water is owned by the club and it does take a lot of effort to keep it in tip top condition.

On the South Lagoon the bailiff reports that there are plenty of roach and skimmers being taken but the larger fish are playing hard to get.

It is much the same story on North House Lake with only a few bream and small carp of around 6lb being reported.

The river on the Wyboston complex is fishable but there have been few anglers on the bank.

At Beckerings there have been rumours that the 30lb common was taken again this week, the best confirmed fish of the week was a 23lb 8oz common, the lake is still fishing steadily with carp being taken by day and night anglers. The float fishing is still producing perch and roach. The bream are being taken on floaters from the surface.

On the canal during the week Slapton was producing good roach and some double figure carp. Section 9 has produced carp to 26lb 8oz this week with some swims producing some good bream and roach catches to a variety of different baits. Top tip this week is to fish the unfashionable swims as the fish are moving from the "hot" pressured swims, one example was three anglers fish on the animal house boating their baits under trees caught nothing all day while a young angler 200 yds away took a 14lb minutes after casting. There have been some good roach being taken in number just before power line bend on section 9, again an area that has been neglected over the past weeks!!.

A few anglers have fished at Lavendon Mill with some very good results, on the downstream section a member reported taking a very large eel well over 6lb. I also had a report from Iain Olney fishing a night on the upstream section he took carp of 24lb 8oz and16lb as well as bream of 3lb while his son Thomas a junior had a large chub of 5lb

The match this week was on section 13a&b of the canal 21 anglers fished,

1 B.Irving 10lb 4oz

2 P.Mills 8llb 10oz

3 I Orbell 7lb 2oz
