Despite the very cold weather this week the carp at
Beckerings continue to feed. Michael Evans again took a multiple four fish catch
with the best at 21lb, Peter Strudwick had fish of double figures and pike also
into double figures have been reported.
Mid week there were reports of chub being taken from the river at the Wyboston
complex with fish to 5lb plus showing.
The
cold conditions have not put anglers off this week and the bailiffs report good
numbers on the bank through the week. Those fishing very fine and using squat or
pinkies have had some good catches, with roach to 3/4lb showing,
The best sections have been the members area at
Slapton, Town North, Globe, Grove and Pitstone.
Early in the week two day ticket anglers fishing on
section 7 reported catching a 2lb roach and a perch of 2lb 8oz.
One angler catching well on the canal is Kevin Rudgley
early in the week he fished from dawn to dusk with lobworm and maggots taking
very little through the day a change of tactics switching to a size 16 with
double red maggot at the end of the day resulted in a fine perch (see picture).
He visited 9a midweek taking 5-6lb of roach perch and gudgeon near the moored
boat.
The match this week was fished in winter conditions Sunday morning with all 12
anglers having to break the ice on section 14 to fish. B.Jones took 10lb 4oz of
bream to take first place second was D Pearce with 1lb 8oz of bream and a
surprise third was club secretary John Morris
