The sustained milder weather over the past week has dramatically improved
the carp fishing locally. At Beckerings Reservoir, Steppingley multiple
catches were the norm. 6 carp over 20lbs were caught over the week. Mick
Stringer caught 4 carp on Tuesday up to 17lbs and a further 4 on Wednesday
up to 25lbs. A night angler caught 6 to 24lbs. The largest reported was a
25lb 8oz common. Pike are showing but only up to low doubles.
At Wyboston the River Ouse is fining down but there is
still plenty of water pushing through. H. N. W. Angling Club from Highgate,
North London, fished the river and the South Lagoon on Sunday and found it
hard going.
The best fish was a 5lb 2oz chub taken from the
river by Peter Elvy feeder fishing with double maggot. On the South Lagoon a
number of pike were caught by the regulars. William Halford had a 15 and a
12 pounder, Bill Holtum a 15lb 8oz and a 10 pounder, Mark Simmonds and Kevin
Bullus caught the same pike at 13lb 4ozs. James Bishop had 3 pike to 13lbs.
You may have heard on the news that major works
will be undertaken at the Black Cat roundabout, rest assured access and
departure points will be maintained whilst these works are on-going.
On the river Ouse at Biddenham, Dave Murdoch Snr and
Fergal O'Kane had some good sport. Fergal had chub up to 3lb 8ozs and Dave
caught a couple of chub up to 1lb 8ozs with roach and perch and lost a large
perch of about 3 pounds at the net.
On the Grand Union canal there are very few reports, a
couple of juniors caught a 2lb carp and lots of small roach near the swing
bridge on section 15 but further north going towards Leighton Buzzard day
ticket angler Jack Hamper caught this fantastic 20lb mirror carp on an
active 8 boilie.
Luton A C fished a club match at the Globe Inn on
Sunday. 22 anglers fished. Results:-
1st) Pete Currell Jnr 3lb 6ozs (mainly perch)
2nd) Mick Dickens 3lb 2ozs (small silver
fish)
3rd) John Salmon 2lb 14ozs (small silver
fish)
