31st March 2008

On the Grand Union canal there were hardly anyone out during the week but the fine weather had some out on Sunday with 12 day ticket anglers fishing between sections 8-15.

The carp boys were out in force at Grove and Slapton with carp up to low doubles being caught by day ticket angler Mr Phillips at Grove.

Elsewhere Mr Evans pole fishing under the railway bridge at Pitstone reported catching tench to 2lb. At the lay-by, members Mr Bird & Mr Quick were seen catching small fish on the pole.

On the 26th April Luton A C in conjunction with Team Beds & Luton and the Leighton Buzzard Observer are having a 'Give it a go' session on the canal to the right of Tesco's in Leighton Buzzard. Tuition starts from 10.00am. More details are available in a supplement within the Leighton Buzzard Observer on Tuesday 8th April. This is open to anyone interested in taking up fishing.

At the recent AGM it was passed unanimously that treble hooks or multiple hook rigs be banned from the canal, this was deter fish theft and takes immediate effect.

Within the Wyboston complex multiple catches of carp had a new high this weekend, on North House Ivan Sayer catching mirror carp weighing 20lbs, 17lb 1ozs and 15lbs plus commons of 18lb 7ozs and 17lb 7ozs. Junior member David Starling caught 4 commons overnight a personal best at 25lbs 6ozs plus others weighing 22lb 2ozs, 16lb and 12lb 10ozs. Father Bruce fishing in the next swim blanked, such is life.

Also at the AGM it was passed that bait boats be banned from North House as the size of the lake did not warrant them, this again takes immediate effect.

At Beckerings Reservoir, Steppingley Barry Fox who came out of retirement to start fishing again caught a personal best common carp weighing 12lbs 8ozs. A number of tench over 5lbs were reported. For information Luton A C has retained the fishing rights on all its leased and rented waters these include Beckerings, North House, The South Lagoon and Lavendon.

We are introducing a register of anglers interested in specific fisheries, under the banner of 'Friends of Lavendon' for example. If you regularly fish a specific water and are interested please contact Ken Scott on 01582 619757.

Our work party program continues this Sunday 6th April at Beckerings Reservoir from 9.00am again if interested contact Ken Scott.

As a final note do not forget to renew your Rod licence as it expires on the 31st March.
