River Ouzel & Ledburn Brook Near Leighton Buzzard (Town South Section of the Grand Union Canal) During recent negotiations with British Waterways (BW) , the Club was offered the opportunity to add around 700yds of the River Ouzel that is adjacent to the towpath along the Town South section at Leighton Buzzard to our Standard Angling Agreement.
Whilst not a major addition to our fishing portfolio, it adds diversity by providing a limited amount of small river fishing habitat. The depth of the stretch varies up to a depth of around 5 feet deep and there are lots of nice fish holding features such as overhanging trees etc
One of the Canal Bailiffs witnessed a 2lb 8oz Roach caught from this stretch last year so we look forward to see what surprises this stretch throws up. There have been chub to 6lb 8oz caught from the canal next to the river which probably would have come from the Ouzel when it has flooded into the canal. Good sized Perch, Bream and Carp have also been reported from this section. When it was test fished for a couple of hours in early march some nice sized perch and roach were caught.
Leighton Buzzard Angling Club have fishing rights on the opposite bank and as this stretch is very narrow please do not disturb any LBAC member who may be fishing on the opposite bank. Find yourself a spot well away from where they are fishing. We do not want to cause any friction. Ledburn Brook adjacent to The Grove P.H. car park at Lock 28 can also be fished by our members Pictures of Fish Caught from the Venue Getting There. This stretch of River Ouzel runs parallel with the Town South Section of the Grand Union Canal. The easiest and safest place to park is in the recreation ground car park in Mentmore Road which is protected by CCTV. There is a bit of a walk to the River so it is best to travel light! Fishing is not permitted on any other parts of the river other than those shown. Google Earth Image of Parking and Access to River |
