The River Ouse- Blunham  "The Spinney"

Water Share with BDAC

Barnet and District Angling Club own this stretch of the Riverand Luton AC members are allowed to fish this venue on production of their Luton Angling Club Membership Book.

The smaller stretch at The Spinney provides consistent sport all year round. Roach, Skimmers, and Perch are the target species. Like most of the Middle Ouse, both sections have a large population of Pike which provide exciting sport when other species are reluctant to feed.

The Fishery

The water consists of 24 numbered swims shaded by willow trees with good cover between them. The water is generally 4 – 5 ft deep but some swims have deeper holes.

Danger Areas

Anglers proceeding upstream of the pump house should be aware of the power lines along the edge of the field – 40-50ft back from the water.

Species

Roach, Bream, Chub, Tench, Perch, Gudgeon, Bleak and some Pike

General Advice

This water fishes well throughout the year and throws up good bags of quality fish although boats can be a pain during the summer months.

Fish light for best results!

Please remember to respect the Rules of both Luton Angling Club and BADAC as any problems will result in the loss of these waters.

Getting There

From the Sandy Roundabout (A603) junction on the A1. Continue North on the A1 for a further 2 miles and Turn Left Signposted Blunham. The road crosses the River Ivel at two humped back bridges (Twin Bridges). Approximately 200yds after crossing the River turn right by a telephone box into Grange Road when the tarmac runs out, Carry straight on along the dirt track After approximately a third of a mile, the track forks, Instead of branching RIGHT to the Hambarn car park, continue on until the track turns LEFT. Follow the track left; up past the 'solitary tree' ( I believe it is the crossroads on the LAA's route to their fishery section) to a sharp right bend followed by a sharp left. Glance to your right and look for The Pump House a corrugated tin roof construction at the end of a row of telegraph poles. A 'pathway' leads from the track you are on to the parking area by the pump house. The Landowner has recently levelled these tracks and the one leading to Hambarn car park with firmed down 'hoggin' and therefore made your journey less bumpy and bone jarring.
